The Green Tour celebrated in style by playing the final round of its 20-year history at the legendary East Lake. From the humble beginning of Orchid Hills to the mystery of where Bobby Jones grew up playing golf, TheGreen Tour has flourished and thrived. It is a unique bunch of “gentlemen”and whatever course we play at, it‘s the Green Tour members who make it special. A big thanks again to the original members of the committee who started The Green Tour 20 years ago.
The only thing that could have made for a better tournament was if our good friend Ciaran O’Flaherty was there. Ciaran, we all missed you and our thoughts and prayers will be with you this week as you do battle
What a day, what a finish. It went down to the last putt on the 19th hole for Colm Reilly to win the Green Tour Jacket in a playoff against Tom Daly.
Tommy lived up to one of his many names, by coming from behind and scoring the highest Stableford Score of the day with 35 points. For those who didn’t watch the play off, Tom chipped in from about 15 feet off the side of the 19th hole green, to score a bogey on the 1st playoff hole. Colm was about 4 feet over the green and was left with a tricky up and down to make par. The pressure was on Colm, because on the next 2 holes Tom had shots. Colm never faulted and hit a smooth chip to 4 feet past the hole and stepped up and drained the putt – his arms were in the air before the ball reached the
hole. A big congratulations to Colm who emerged from the pressure of playing in the final four, by shooting a solid 32 points (with 19 of them on the back nine) to get into the play off AND was playing off a handicap of 5 –
having being runner before, he is a worthy winner and also won the cumulative low gross with an average of 78. Well done, Colm.
Congratulations to Tom Daly who finished 2nd and challenged Colm right to the very end.
Last year’s winner Irial Finan, who hadn’t played in a month and suffering from jet lag finished 3rd by shooting an impressive 34 points.
Ciaran Morris playing off a very impressive handicap of 5, finished 4th. It should be noted that Ciaran shot an average gross score over the 4 rounds of 80.3.
Chris Kendrick and Bernard McGuiness won the 2 closest to the pin on holes 11 & 15.
Congratulations also to Tom Daly, Irial Finan and Michael O’Driscoll who won the Bowl, Plate and Shield, respectively.
A summary of the skins won for the year is below. As can be seen below, the singing Noel Goggin was the highest winner with $620 with Tommy Tom winning $440. Thanks to Stephen Colman who did a wonderful job managing the skins all year and ensured Eoin didn’t win the rollup to the #1 index
Most improved golfer in the past year was Chris Kendrick, who got his index down from 4.02 to an amazing 1.9. Well done Chris!!
The most disimproved golfer for the year was The Chairman, who managed to go from playing his best golf of his career a year ago, to some of his worst (5.1 index increasing to 8.7). However, there is light in the tunnel as he
won the highest back nine score with 19 points (a tie with Chris Kendrick and Colm Reilly).
