ROUND 2 - GOLF CLUB OF GEORGIA - CREEKSIDE Sept 12th

A big congratulations to relative rookie Bernard Heffernan, who has obviously been working on his golf game with a very impressive 37 points. Brian Boland finished second with an impressive 74 for 35 points and another Rookie Barry O'Mahony came third, with a strong score of 34 points. MOD still maintains his lead but will need to continue to practice his golf game to hold up under the pressure of these big guns. He still won the Shield with a score of 33 points, Barry O'Mahony won the Plate with 34 points and Brian Boland won the Bowl with his 35 points. Irial FInan won the back nine, with a score of 17 points. Skins were more evenly divided with Jim O'Sullivan and our Guest (watch this fellow!) Chris Kendrick (40 points) taking equal dosh. Also in the money were Tom Daly, David Walsh and Don O'Reilly. NOTE: Mr Boland won ZERO skins despite shooting 74!

ROUND 1 - HORSESHOE BEND -  Sept 26th

Another great day yesterday with several players making significant moves up the leaderboard. Many thanks to David Walsh and Bernard Heffernan for hosting us at Horseshoe Bend – the course was in great shape.

The movers and shakers for the day were:

  • Eoin “you did in your hole” Lehane with an extremely impressive 41 points – this is the highest day score for the year and positions Eoin at the top of the leader board with a  slender lead of 1 point. Can this 3-peat winner of the Green Jacket fall back on all of his experience and become a 4-time winner of the jacket. Of course, the last time Eoin won the Green jacket was in 2007, when he chipped with 2 hands on the club, had a handicap in the single digits and there was only 3 other members on the Green Tour

  • Fellow Corkman, Dave “tremendous” Canty delivered an equally impressive 40 points and won the Plate. He is in the final four and is only 2 points back from the leader going into the final day

  • Paul “not from Cork” Valentine had a strong 38 points and won the Shield. While it wasn’t enough to make the final four, Paul is nicely position in the 2nd group just 3 points back

  • Chalky “Casey hit my ball” White shot a solid 34 points to secure a spot in the final four – just 1 point back from the leader. How he is going to understand 3 Corkonians on the final day is beyond me

  • Michael “stop picking on me” O’Driscoll decided to lie low so the Bookie can target other members of the leaderboard, delivered a surprisingly low 25 points. He is also in the final four only 1 point back

  • Michael “I’m retired” Adams won the Bowl with a solid 34 points

  • Jimmy the Grip is lurking in the weeds with a score of 36 points and won the back nine, with a score of 19 points – piping birthday boy Barry “socks” O’Mahony who also had 19 points on the back nine

Only 7 points separate the top 7 players going into the final day, with Bernard “the quiet man” Heffernan and Ciaran “the Bookie” Morris, the other 2 players to round out this illustrious group.

Only 12 points (6 shots on the last day) separate the top 15 players, so many members will be having nervous dreams about odds of coming from behind on the final day.

FINAL ROUND  - GCOG Creekside -  Oct 10th

It came down to the last putt for Eoin Lehane to secure a record setting 4th Green Jacket. After slicing his drive high right into the trees, Eoin made a tremendous par by hitting out to the left side of the fairway, knocking it on the green and draining a 20ft putt. Paul Valentine who had the best stableford score of the day with 35 points, put up a gallant fight, finishing just one point back. Eoin adds the year 2020 to victories in 2003, 2004 and 2007
