The Green Tour Singles Match Play 2018
The marquee match in this year’s lineup is the last one out of the draw – 2017 winner Brian Boland will host 2016 winner Ciaran Morris. While Boland has the satisfaction of being the current champion, his loss to Morris in 2016 will no doubt be gnawing at him, so this will be quite the grudge match. The bracket also boasts a match between major winners Michael Walsh and Chalky White – and with Noel Goggin, David Walsh and Danny Lynch also lurking, this looks like the bracket of death.
Michael O’ Driscoll and Jimmy the Grip O’Sullivan looks the pick of the matches in the first bracket, while Bernard McGuinness will need to bring his A game to have a chance of beating out stalwart Peter Casey. In the second bracket, David Canty should have too much in the bag for Brian Mahony – and the mind games have already begun, with Canty conceding home advantage to Mahony, seeking to knock him off his guard. Typical Cork nonsense. Fergal Kearns and Tom Daly will be worth double the admission fee for laughs alone, while Bernard Heffernan should bely his rookie status in taking on Paul Mulligan.
In the last bracket, there are three tough matches on the card – McGill/Lehane will be a battle, Finan/Adams will be a scrap, and O’Flaherty/Colman will be a dogfight.
Matches are due by 1-Jun. Get them in – or risk the dreaded coin toss!
